LEG XVI Aquila between two signa. Babelon (Antonia) 126. Crawford 544/31. CRI 372. RBW -. Sydenham 1236. Struck from a slightly worn dies and with areas of weakness, otherwise, good very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

This otherwise unknown legion is not identical with Octavian's Legio XVI Gallica, which survived Actium until being disbanded after its defeat by the Batavians in 70 AD.
